Tulsa Opera

Founded in 1948, Tulsa Opera is the 18th oldest opera company in North America, produces three grand operas each season, and has been named one of America’s top 10 favourite regional opera companies by Opera News magazine. Today, Tulsa Opera presents three grand opera productions each season at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. In addition to its main stage operas, Tulsa Opera operates an extensive education and outreach program that provides opportunities for adults and children statewide.  Those programs include Tulsa Youth Opera (TYO), Opera on Tour!, the Studio Artist Program, and the Student Matinee.

“For Tulsa Opera’s 2011-2012 Opera on Tour! program, we sought a short opera that was tuneful, was accessible to elementary-aged students, included a student-participation component and had a captivating storyline. We found all of this in Malcolm Fox’s The Silence Tree. The story is charming and presents a valuable lesson in standing up for one’s own beliefs. The music is melody-driven, with lyrics that are clear and concise. In short, this is the perfect piece for our tour. We are delighted to be giving it its second American production.”
--Aaron Beck, Director, Tulsa Opera Education

The cast is Stephanie Washington (Silence), James Callon (Trimble), Sara Louise Petrocelli (Clatter), and Wayne Hu (Yap)
